It is one of the three significant Shiva temples mentioned in Trilinga Desham, also known as the "Land of Three Lingas." The temple features two Shiva Lingas on a single pedestal—Lord Shiva and Lord Yama—collectively known as Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy. This unique aspect symbolizes the duality of life and death.

Established centuries ago, Kaleshwara Temple has been a spiritual haven for devotees. The temple is located at the confluence of the Godavari and Pranahita rivers, making it a sacred site for pilgrims.
