Major Festivals and Celebrations at Kaleshwaram Temple

The holy Sri Kaleshwara Muktheshwara Swamy Temple, located at the sacred Triveni Sangamam, is a hub of vibrant spiritual energy throughout the year. However, during festival seasons, the temple transforms into a grand spectacle of devotion, attracting lakhs of pilgrims from Telangana, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and beyond.

If you are planning to experience the true divine glory of "Dakshina Kashi", visiting during one of these major festivals is highly recommended. Here is the complete list of festivals (Utsavs) celebrated at the Kaleshwaram Temple:

The Biggest Celebrations

1. Maha Shivaratri (The Grand 3-Day Festival)

Being a major Shaivite Kshetram, Maha Shivaratri is the most important festival here. The celebrations span over three days. The highlight of the festival is the special midnight Abhishekam during the Lingodbhava Kala on the night of Vaikuntha Chaturdashi. Grand Kalyanam (divine marriage) of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is also performed, and the entire temple is beautifully illuminated.

2. Triveni Sangam Pushkaralu (The Kaleshwaram Kumbh Mela)

Once every 12 years, the Kaleshwaram Kshetram hosts the grand Pushkaralu (similar to the Kumbh Mela). Since Kaleshwaram is the confluence point of three rivers—Godavari, Pranahita, and the mystic Saraswati—taking a holy dip here during the Pushkaralu is considered extremely auspicious and life-altering.

Yearly Festivals (Annual Utsavs)

3. Ugadi (Telugu New Year)

The traditional Telugu New Year is celebrated with great devotion. Devotees gather in the temple premises at 5:00 PM to listen to the Nutan Panchanga Sravanam (reading of the new year's almanac), seeking blessings for a prosperous year ahead.

4. Sri Rama Navami & Dhanurmasam

The Sri Rama Temple inside the Kaleshwaram complex hosts beautiful celebrations for Lord Rama:

  • Sri Rama Navami: A grand Sita Rama Kalyanam (divine wedding) is celebrated with great joy.

  • Dhanurmasam: Special early morning pujas are conducted throughout this holy month. On the auspicious day of Bhogi, the divine Sri Godadevi-Ranganayaka Swamy Vivaham (marriage) is beautifully performed.

5. Sharannavaratri (Dussehra)

During the auspicious nine days of Navaratri leading up to Dussehra, special Utsava Sevas and grand Alankarams (decorations) are offered to Goddess Shubhananda Devi (Parvati) and Goddess Mahasaraswati.

6. Ganapati Navaratri (Vinayaka Chavithi)

Lord Ganesha is worshipped with great enthusiasm during Vinayaka Chavithi. Throughout the year, special pujas are performed for Sri Vijaya Ganesh every Tuesday.

Important Monthly Events

Apart from the annual festivals, the temple also conducts special monthly spiritual programs:

  • Masa Shivaratri: Observed every month, a powerful Navagraha Rudra Chandi Havan is performed from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

  • Sankashtahara Chaturthi: Special pujas and rituals are dedicated to Lord Ganesha every month on this auspicious day to remove obstacles from the lives of devotees.

Plan Your Festival Visit:

During these festival days, Kaleshwaram witnesses a heavy rush of devotees. If you wish to participate in special Abhishekams, Havans, or witness the Kalyanams, it is always advised to book your accommodation in the local Satrams in advance and arrive early to experience the divine bliss peacefully.

Om Namah Shivaya! Experience the joy and devotion of Kaleshwaram's grand festivals.
